Sony releases 35mm sensor

I want this chip in my Bessa R having TriX or HP5+ mood.😛
But let me have the option to pop the sensor out and drop in my TriX sometimes.🙂

the more full frame sensors out there the better.
can a Leica and or Nikon and or Zeiss DRF with the FF chip be that far behind?

I for one m pleased to see the industry heading in this direction at last. Soon I will be able to use all of those yummy medium and longer focal length lenses I own without them becoming unnaturally long and will not have to worry about buying new ultra wide angles.

dont hold your breath, everytime a new sensor technology comes out people race to the threads in hope that it will be stuck in a drf, a tiny market probably not worth the research costs of such technologies....if they can great, but expect it in a sony full frame camera as they also came out with a 24-70 2.8 zeiss lens that is a full frame lens that can also be used on 1.5 crop cameras....

I agree, I dont think we'll see it in a DRF for a while, but I hope I'm wrong. I also hope they dont bother with a screen, or silly modes, but stick it in a titanium body with full manual everything. Basically the Contax G1 but let me focus with the lens barrel also please. Oh, I don't need movies or A/V out either, or focussing assist beams, or pop up flash, or any other junk.

That alone would convert me to the (to some, "unpronounceable") Alpha (formerly known as Minolta) mount. Zeiss glass is far far far superior to any Canon or Nikon glass I've seen or tried.

Score for us eh? That full frame sony is pretty nifty. I must say it makes me interested in an alpha camera (always liked the minolta's) and full frame is a nice touch but zeiss lenses sounds great to me. My teacher who also is the photo editor for national geographic traveler here in china, and who is a zeiss nut, is drooling over this camera, he has yet to bite down on an alpha yet because he just kept thinking something big is coming, so he uses his trusty sony r1, but today on the train we were talking about it and both of us are pretty interested. Since my 20D is shot and one of the two lenses I have is shot too it wouldnt be such a stretch for me to get into this system.

Dont know about you but I will keep a close eye on these developments.

Now I want to know who makes these zeiss lenses and if they are just licensed to be making them under a name and what not....plus does it have that real "zeissness"

they also made a 135/1.8, an 85/1.4 and a 16-80 (which is not a full frame lens), all zeiss. and the first two seem to be great lenses.

true, but none oh those are really "everyday" lenses for us as we like thr creative freedom of both wider (35 ish) and fast lenses, the problem is that the 2470 seems to have a high price, not to be unexpected though, and also im sure it wont actually retail for that sony suggests.

That's an interesting comment. Current 'Zeiss' 35mm lenses are made by Cosina and I doubt they go outside Japan for the actual glass. From the tests I've seen, their actual performance is not bad but nothing spectacular, particularly in comparison with their Nikon or Canon equivalents. I would go for the Nikon or Canon lens over a 'Zeiss' every time.

Back on thread: full frame sensors have been around for a while. The difficulty is making them work in a small camera body. For me, the best full-frame sensor remains film.
