Sony RX1s is coming ...

I don't read much digital camera news, but when I do, the exciting stuff is usually coming from Sony. Nikon had some excitement with the D800 and I'm sure Canon will respond soon with a mega pixel DSLR. But they need to step up to a plate with a real mirrorless or get left behind.

Personally I somewhat agree as the RX1R is the one camera for which I actually had to buy a half case. It greatly improves grip and makes carrying it more comfortable. It's a stretch to say the ergonomics are improved while shooting, all that remains poor. :p

Adding an integrated EVF could very well make it about the right size (for me).
 
at the moment my main grip is the lens , viewfinder is a bent piece of wire bent to more or less to a 35mm view, wedged into the hotshoe.
 
Hope it has the pop-up EVF, and priced under $3000
That's just the price of a 35 summicron, you get hell of a camera with a Zeiss lens..

Honestly, I don't know why they would go to the trouble of redesigning the lens to be a fractionally faster f/1.8 vs the current f/2. It'll be the same lens, same body, different sensor.

BTW, I also doubt it will be a curved sensor, it will most likely be the exact same sensor as in the a7s, dropped into the exactly same body as the RX1 but likely with the 50mm and 75mm jpg crop modes removed.
 
my wish list

I'd like to see the camera body dimensions remain the same as the RX1.
I'd like to see the lens size and weight reduced by ~30%.
I'd like to see one fall out of the sky and into my lap.

Sony said that the curved sensor is production-ready and it will have 12 megapixels in the first iteration, higher megapixel versions will follow in the following years.

And looking at the lens patent it could be a collapsible lens -> considerably thinner and even more pocketable, it will be unbeatable for quality/size and it will focus down to -4 EV just like the A7s.

But it is very likely to have a very high starting price just like the RX1 and it might go down a lot later on.

The RX1 was the test camera for the tech in the A7. I think we'll be seeing a curved sensor in this next iteration for that reason. And it'll be a whole new lens designed for the sensor. That's my prediction anyway.

Be less pessimistic. Sony is anything but backward-looking.
 
Hmmm.. I can c that could be happening. Fuji certainly does it w/ the x100 series. They did surprise us w/ the xt1 though.

Yes, but if they migrate a concave sensor into the A7 series it will be compatible with NO lenses made previously, even on adapters. Sony will have to re-start its lens roadmap entirely from scratch.

Unless it is a special model of the a7 family just as the Ricoh gxr a12 m module was. Wouldn't the curved sensor design help w/ legacy rf lenses?

But if not, I totally agree w/ u on this point.

Does Sony have a good track record of supporting it's recently over run models?
I'm asking not insinuating an answer. Presently looking at an RX1 as an everyday carry option.
I am however quite concerned it will be an orphan with all these developments and new releases.
What are you all experienciing when it comes to getting service for your 1-5 year old NEX and Alpha bodies?
