sitemistic said:I keep trying to like Kievs, and keep buying them, only to have to throw them in the trash after a few days for the most part. Bought one last week, in fact, from a U.S. seller that said it worked fine. It's junk. The shutter trashed. Clearly hacked up in an attempt to repair it by someone. I'm afraid putting them into the Contax class may be pushing things.
But, there are many who love the cameras.

I really get bugged by "lense", but I'm also annoyed by 'cron and 'lux and other silly abbreviations.
It's like we were back in the high school AV club.

And please don't take this as a "I think Kievs are junk". I know they are fine cameras. My meaning being like Bill P just stated, Quit griping and enjoy photography with what you got.

Okay, I'm addressing this issue. I do not like the "Us vs Them", "Ours is better than yours", and "We know more than you" attitude of this post. It has become a Pissing Contest.
I read your post on the Contax site. You got a lot of thought-out replies. .......
Hi Brian,
If after better informing yourself you have found my Pissing more censurable and the Pissing of Mike Kovacks more digestible, it's just an issue of personal taste. Now if you like to pinpoint the factual mistakes of my opening thread to base your methodological critique, you are kindly invited to.
Hi sitemistic,
Thank you for comming to the fore so boldly with your serial Kiev trashing issue, which somewhere doesn't fit an educated mind like yours. Nevermind,
Prospective Kiev owners: Learn from sitemistic experience. Start studying Kiev disassembly from the Kiev Survival Site with the first Kiev you buy and never trash any of them. One will serve you as parts gold mine, the others will come to life as soon as you master disassembly.
Hi Valdemar,
You see. you have surprised me for good. I liked your post #14. Therefore under your roof I will repeat the whole thing in a single sentence.
From a position of knowledge and common interest, I and other folks coined Dee's term Kontax and I even went to Contax owners to offer a friendly hand. In exchange we got a Pissing, of such good taste that our friend Brian took for granted the need of ignoring.
So what ? Nothing. Back to our beautifull rancho. We went outside out of generousity, not of need. If their snobism blinds them to see where the grain grows, let's them pay import prices.
Cheers,
Ruben

Sorry, not my cup of tea, so to speak. I think I'll stick with my preference for Laphroaig.

Ruben I think you need to put a roll on film in your Kiev and go out and make something happen. Sitemistic would probably rather spend his time out shooting than trying to fix a broken Kiev. I know I would.
