I managed to wipe out the white paint on "Leica M6" with alcohol last night and the wiper with alcohol wiped over the rangefinder window by accident, will it harm the coating of rangefinder window? Feeling so bad...If it does harm the rangefinder window, what can I do to fix it? TAT:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Alcohol won't hurt it at all. That's a really hard piece of glass with a really good coating. One doesn't often see them damaged. So just clean it off and make sure no drops of liquid get under it. It's well sealed too so that shouldn't be an issue. Don't worry. Happy shooting.

Actually I'm kind of shocked that the paint on a Leica will go away when you wipe it over.

Not a problem. Organic solvents (ethanol, isopropanol, toluene, xylene) won't mess up lens coatings.

Some solvents can soften or dissolve plastic or certain adhesives (including lens adhesives, so exercise caution) but alcohol is generally pretty harmless.

On a different note: seems the manual mixed up the rangefinder window and the shutter speed dial, never noticed that before :p

hrzlvn, welcome to the forum, don't be a stranger after your first post ;)

Thanks ha, never thought I would ever post a new thread, but under this circumstance, I have to..

I will post the photo to this thread later if you want to have a look :)
My original aim was to make a safari M6, all black.

Don't be afraid, the suggestions here are right: Alcohol and similar dissolvents are OK around the RF windows. I had a similar problem reglueing a loose VF front window on my Hexar RF: The strong glue vapours changed my repaired window completly to opaque! But with a Qtip and ethanol I managed to clean almost of the VF. Perfect solution.

And: Welcome with a useful thread in this forum ;)

This is how it looks like, any comment?

I was wondering: since you put a black tape over where the Leica logo used to be, why didn't you do the same to the "Leica M6" wordings?

Actually, I would cut a circle from the tape that fits the space for the decal exactly.
Even smoother

Apart from that: love it!

I found there is a small hole under the logo after I peeled it off. I will replace it with an original black dot which is on its way.
