Hey all,

I need some replacement screws for a lens and was wondering if anyone has a good online source. I've tried Micro-Tools, but their web site is unhelpful with dimensions and the customer service reps over the phone and e-mail have been clueless.

The dimensions I'm looking for are Philips 00 panhead, ~3..5mm length.

Thanks!

Hi Uinku,

If micro tools does not have the screws, then mcmaster-carr is my next go to source. I have also heard that model train supply places carry a lot of very small screws.

The important dimensions you will need are the diameter of the screw (across the threaded area), the length and the pitch. Thread pitches are (mostly) standard, so if you can not measure this, it is probably OK. Metric screws are listed as diameter x length (pitch). So a small metric screw would look something like: M2 x 8 (0.4). This would mean a 2mm diameter by 8mm long with 0.4mm thread-to-thread pitch. The head type would also be listed, but the hardware is sorted by diameter first.

Good Luck,

Matt

Screw specs include diameter in mm (usually 2.0mm, 1.7, or 1.4mm) Then length, in mm, head shape, round, countersunk, and finish (black, tin, chrome). I can supply IF you can provide all information. No returns if you order wrong size. John

The screws sold for toys and models from hobby shops often have coarser threads than those used for cameras and fine machines.

McMaster-Carr. They have a very complete catalog online.
If M-C doesn't have what you need, try Small Parts. Also online.
