Popflash is great but are there other sources for Zeiss lenses in North America? Or that ship to the USA?

I would have expected cameraquest to stock zeiss ikon stuff, but the very name zeiss is suspiciously absent from the entire site, is there a story to be heard here from an older thread or is it just not Stephen's cup of tea?

I can heartily recommend Matsuiyastore on eBay. I have bought several items (including my ZI body and Sonnar C) from Noriaki and found him to be a perfect seller. The only downside is a Japan-only warranty, but that has not been an issue for me (yet).

I don't understand all the particulars, but Stephen was selling the gray market products, then Zeiss cracked down hard on gray market and he was forced to stop. You notice now the US price is pretty much uniform because Zeiss is setting it.

B&H, Adorama and a store in Portland, Oregon where I got mine called Pro Photo Supply. They are extremely nice and will ship anywhere.

wow, i'm in portland and have several friends who work at pro photo, i didn't know they sold them!?! i'm going to stop by tomorrow!

I work for a camera shop here in the DC area. We are able to order them from "Zeiss USA". You should be able to do the same from your local dealer s well.

rjporter I got a black body and a 28mm from them. I'm in Washington and don't have any shops where I live. The guys at Pro Photo are some of the nicest I've ever dealt with. I'm thinking of going back this weekend just to "shop"

Thanks all. BTW I am extremly happy with the service I have gotten from Popflash. I was just wondering who else was out there.

That was the cover story, but there's got to be more to it than that because other grey market importers continued to sell at discounted prices despite this supposed crackdown. What Stephen said, as I recall, was that it closed off supply from his supplier. Well, I don't know who his supplier was & why he didn't go to another supplier although there has been some speculation on that point.

Whatever the particulars, there was some sort of falling out & CameraQuest just stopped distributing Zeiss products after giving them a big buildup & rave reviews. Seems like a real shame & a disservice to their customer base.

An excellent dealer is Dr. Joseph Yao. You can contact him by e-mail (joseph@yao.com).

Well, I wondered at the time if Cosina was threatened by Zeiss, and Cosina in turn threatened our buddy. But, speculation is kinda useless anyway.

ok, i checked it out in person today, and i officially have gas for zeiss. i'm going to start going through my house to see what i don't have any use for anymore, anybody interested in a fridge full of food or a minivan my wife uses to take the kids back and forth to school?

Glad that you had a chance to see the lens first hand. Hope that you buy from them.

Man rjporter, i should have never told you they had them for sale in Portland. It's gonna make you spend more money. I'm glad Portland is a 6 hour drive away, I'd be in there every day.

We have a Leica/Nikon/Zeiss dealer just off I-95. I always take alternate routes. If I don't, my knees get weak if I go too close to the place. Drooling commences upon entering the parking lot. As I enter the tiny showroom, I get what must be a panic attack (not a GAS attack) and run for the exit. It is just too much to take in.
