A heads up for those living in or near Ventura, California. on Thursday May 29, Lauren Greenfield will be speaking at the four points sheraton hotel as a guest speaker for Brooks Institute's visual journalism program. it is free and begins at 6:30pm. it should be quite interesting and very informative. my guess is that the audience should be less than 100. there is also time for questions at the end.

Lauren Greenfield: Finding Meaning in Our Culture: An Extraordinary Look at Unusual Lives
Tuesday, May 29 - 6:30pm - Four Points Sheraton Ventura, Clippers Room

Any questions please ask.

Thank you for posting this. I heard her on NPR and she was interesting. She was describing "Thin". Pretty grim. I really liked her "Girl Culture" work / book. I just put this down in my calendar since I'd like to go.

My only fear is that if I have anything to do with Brooks, I'll somehow get on their mailing list or junk-call list again. I once called and wrote to them via e-mail, when I first moved to Ventura, simply asking if they had darkrooms for rent. Besides being told "no", which was fine, I then proceeded to get solicitations by e-mail, regular mail and even phone for the next year until I sent a nasty letter. If you have anything to do with Brooks, please don't take this personally!!

no problem. i am a student here and know what you mean, their advertising is everywhere. these speakers happen three times every two months and are very interesting and informative. past speakers include david hume kennerly, gerd ludwig, and dirk halstead. The actual speaking is very relaxed, and no there is not any type of sign up. just come and enjoy, it should be really good. if you ever want to see future speakers check out this site.... brooksnppa.org

Too bad Ventura is a bit of a drive from Riverside, that'd be very interesting.
