Damaso, congratulations on your fellowship. That is quite an honor and very deserving, from looking at your work.

You could say that about a lot of places. I've found that more than anything it's about getting comfortable with yourself. During this project there were many times when I could have easily not taken an image. In fact there were plenty of times when I did not feel comfortable and didn't shoot.

What helped me was spending a lot of time observing rather than shooting. Of course not everyone is, or should be, comfortable photographing people, strangers or intimate moments. I firmly believe that most people can learn to do this but if you don't like it don't do it....

Where I live people are not crazy about having their photo taken so it is hard to balance. If you ask someone if you can take their photo, the image is already ruined.
