Canada, eh.
My buddy and fellow local photographer are meeting with the town's art council about setting up a photographers' group under it's auspices. Some years ago my town did have a photography club, but it died out after a few years of operation. The experienced photographers eventually got tired of the newbies asking for help to take better pictures with their digi-cams but were too lazy to read their manual first. The group we're trying to set up now will be a support/social peer group for experienced photographers and printers working with traditional processes.

I like Uxbridge. I was there a couple of years ago when I was working on the movie "Ice Princess". If I'm ever over there again I'll give you a shout. 🙂

Good luck on setting up your new photography club.

Good Luck Frank in setting up the club

Good Luck Frank in setting up the club

I co founded The Oakville Camera Club this past summer here in Oakville with a friend of mine. Its mostly a digital club but the tolerate film users like me🙂. We are now making a move into the main branch of the Town Library in the new year. It's a lot of fun, you meet new people and make new friends outside the usual tribe. We made it inentionally a club focused on education, all skill levels, monthly assignments and the odd field trip.

For those in the Oakville/Mississauga/Burlington area who are interested in checking us out. We are at http://oakvillecameraclub.com

Just make sure you have a vision in mind on what you want to be as a camera/photography club and unlike the RFF tribe, you have to have a bigger tent.

Traditional Film Photoraphers' Society is a go under the umbrella of the Uxbridge Arts Council, first meeting will be in March or so in the new year. Looking for photographers using traditional tools and techniques. Our meeting went well.

w3rk5, yes by all means.

Good luck with the club, Frank. I just joined my local photo club this week. I wanted access to their darkroom (even though I'm setting up my own), and I need to meet people in this new town.

Congrats Frank....surprised you can get enough members interested in trad processes in a town the size of Uxbridge.
AFAIK I'm the only RFF member in Hamilton, and there's half a million people here. I haven't joined the Hamilton Camera Club on the assumption it's totally digital....

Congrats and good luck Frank

Congrats and good luck Frank

Good luck with your endeavor. Not much interest in my parts, most anyone doing photography is doing digital, especially the pros! Fortunately, my 14yo son is interested enough in photography to see the value in both film and digital. We've been processing and printing a while now. He's got fantastic images from a trip out west last summer. Funny thing, we have hundreds of photographs taken on film, but all his digital photos were downloaded to his friend's computer, and we have yet to see them five months later! We're currently rebuilding the darkroom into a permanent location. I can't wait to get going again - this processing and printing by Walmart or the local pharmacy, etc. is not cutting it for me.

Well, again, good luck and enjoy.

Isn't there someone in Burlington? Yeah, yeah, not the same, but they do have the Ikea...

After writing a lengthy reply to this it was all for nothing as somehow it was lost. Basically, I'm very interested with hearing about the development of your group Frank, as I plan on a similar venture in our area.
