Spontaneous Impromtu Stealth Portraits

well, venchka, life is sometimes simple and easy. Amsterdam it is.

Bonus points for me! It looked too nice to be New Orleans.

Nobody has ventured a guess on the lens I used to start this topic.

Looks like I found a favorite subject! Keep 'em coming! I might add that the timer and shutter of my RF camera was so quiet I couldn't even hear it over the elevator music from 2' away.

here's another I dug up.. taken with my Contax T in an artist's gallery.. he was sitting in the middle of the room as people walked around.. I believe I was 4 feet away when I took the shot.. he had no clue, which is funny to me since he's a pro photog :)

I spent the afternoon sitting on the steps of the Vancouver Art Museum. This is just one of many interesting shots. The RD1 was great for these low key pictures. After a while I was just the guy hanging out on the steps with a weird old camera.

She was saying "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!" at the time.

In my pre-RF days, Fuji Finepix 4900Zoom f2.8 1/25th. Converted to B&W in Lightroom.

Thanks Man, nice work.

The rest of you have practiced this a lot. Y'all are WAY better than I am. However, it would appear that you all actually had the camera up to your eye.

Nup, I take quite a few with it away from my eye...

Took this at lunch one day. The guy was oblivious until I handed him a print two weeks later.

hey rex...out of curiosity did you take this on purpose because one guy is smoking pot, and the other has a straight edge tattoo on his neck?! just not sure if you're familiar w/ the whole straight edge thing (hardcore anti-drug scene). so maybe this photo is even better than you thought :D then again...maybe you knew all about it. just thought i'd point it out in case you didn't. cool shot!

It could also be a very thinly rolled cigarette. I heard Vancoouver is fairly permissive when it comes to mj. Do folks just fire'em up anywhere? Heavens!

Apologies to Todd and everyone else who "shot from the hip" or otherwise without holding the camera to your eye. Obviously that takes a lot of practice. I'm practicing!

I actually went out Friday night. With a camera. And a new to me lens. :D This was way out of the norm for moi. I learned some things:

1. After an awful start with Kodak BW400CN and terrible processing from Walgreens, I trusted the second roll to Wolf Camera. Much better! I like it. I need more practice.

2. I totally LOVE my new old lens! I'll never understand why I didn't buy one of these way back when. I do need more practice.

3. I need more practice.

From OZ Bar last Friday night. Unknown dancers.

Hey Wayne, nice shot. More practice is always a good thing, but you're clearly off to a good start with this shot.

Here's one of mine taken on Friday at California Adventure which, given the topic of this thread, I think I'll call "Portrait of a portrait."

I had no idea. I'm so old I stopped taking drugs before tatooes came into fashion.

I may be old but I like to "keep on sleazen"

More stealth pictures brought to you courtesy of the steps of the Vancouver Art Museum. Nobody paid any attention to the RD1.

here's a shot I took this weekend with the Contax T again.. it's obviously not a 'stealth shot', but it's a hip shot

on second thought, it's a 'knee shot'.. I held the camera way down while standing
