Today I had a very strange experience.

Walking by the streets and shooting with a friend, I had a look at a pile of used books for sale. One of these was this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Venetian-Donna-Leon/dp/0330344129/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328711788&sr=8-1

Man, was I pi__ed!
"They stole my picture" I told my friend.
I was referring to this:

Taken about twenty years ago in Venice.
And the edition had the nerves to write "Cover: photograph by Ernst Haas, Magnum" about the picture that was kind of colored over. Another proof of their dishonesty surely...

I went home full of a holy rage, ready to fight for my rights, and called St Google to my help.

This is what I found:

Now I felt both :eek: and :bang:
I mean, really:bang::bang::bang:
You see, even the few picture that I ever took and don't stink, were taken by better than me decades before.

:bang::bang::bang: I tell you!

I am considering giving up photography and learning origami instead...

You'll be surprise how many good origami artists are out there... However, before you quit it all at once, dibs on all your lenses... :angel:

But seriously, your picture is wonderful and just shows that some things are changing over the years but the stereotypes (in your case the city of Venice) don't. What was bringing an inspiration in that little town before still inspires today... as well as the smell of the canal, never changes... :D
Buy the book, hide it behind the wardrobe and forget about Haas... Who?

P.S.
BTW, I like your shot better

Michael, you took a wonderful photo, the fact that you noticed the same image as a Magnum photographer just means that you see things like a Magnum photographer!

Be proud: Great minds think alike. :D

You can't be too sure that any Origami you could come up with hasn't also been done before.
