Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it harms the meter switch to shut it back off manually instead of letting the shutter cycle shut it off after the shutter is fired? Is it OK to turn it on and off whenever?

This is what I do. The manual instructs the user to turn the meter off between readings, so I find it hard to imagine that it could cause any problems.

Thank you. I read one of the manuals but all I noticed was the description of how it shut itself off after the shutter was fired. My switches are fine, so I didn't want to break them. I appreciate it!

I have used Spotmatics professionally and own usage since 1968.
Seen no problem switching off, manually.
Batteries, then Mercury, lasted for decades..

Same, I've had mine since 1969 and have always shut the meter off, if I didn't shoot.

Thank you for the confirmation, charjohncarter! I'm really liking these things, these days. Good lenses too.

Just know that over time the plastic handle attached to the lever can become detached though long term use. I had this happen to my Spotty but I managed to glue it back in place quite easily. I would not specifically say this is due to switching the meter on and off but can be related to age and use generally. Having said this I never had or have qualms about using the meter as you suggest.

Thanks for the warning, peterm1! It's good to know if it ever comes off I can glue it back on. I've heard rumors some were plastic and some made out of aluminum, not really sure what mine are.
