SPUR HRX-3 New 2 Developer

Thanks! the SPUR-HRX-3 is a developer I'd very much like to test. The Retro 80S is a sharp film but can build up contrast very easily.

I just received my Freestyle order of Rollei Retro 80S and Developer SPUR HRX-3 New 2.

I created the following Developing Chart SPUR HRX-3 New 2 (use at your own risk).

Any comments on experience with either the Rollei Retro 80S or SPUR_HRX-3?

My experience with Spur HRX-3:
- gives very good sharpness
- very fine grain
- both above lead to to very good detail resolution
- you loose 1/3 to 1 stop of box speed

Overall an excellent developer.

My experience with Retro 80S:
- extremely fine grain (finer than TMX, Acros and Delta 100)
- sharpness and resolution on a comparable level to TMX, Acros and D100
- with most developers you get an extrem S-shape characteristic curve (this film is Agfa-Gevaert Aviphot Pan 80, an aerial film, and in aerial photography such a characteristic makes sense, but in normal photography you get problems with it)
- to tame the contrast only some developers are good for this film, e.g. Adox A49, Spur HRX-3, Spur Accurol; to tame the contrast you must lower the speed to ISO 20-40 dependant on the developer
- the film is excellent as an extremely fine-grain, high resolving Infrared film in combination with an IR-filter which blocks the light under 715 Nanometer wavelenght (like Heliopan RG 715); no other IR-film can deliver such fine detail
- the film is excellent as a BW slide film, developed by either www.schwarz-weiss-dia.de or www.photostudio13.de.
But I cannot recommend it developed by dr5: then the film will be much too contrasty with blocked shadows and highlights.
