A squirrel chewed through the neutral on our power lines and a voltage spike took out a lot of gear, including the little black box that provides our internet service. Living in the boonies, we won’t get service until Saturday. See you then, but until then, feel free to start a conversation on this thread. And it certainly doesn’t have to discuss destructive squirrel behavior.
 
Sorry to hear Bill. I took my bird feeders down because of them. They won.

I use my iPhone as a WiFi hotspot to get on the internet when service is not available. Not sure if you have that option. Good luck.

I've had one for 7 years and even if a squirrel manages to get on it, the weight sensitive design prevents even a single sunflower seed from being consumed. Plus, if any parts break or simply wear out, you'll get shipped and replaced for free.

I never see squirrels in my yard. I think having a meanass thug of a cat keeps them away. My cat has also chased off the opossums that used to live in my yard. I've actually seen him attack them and chase them out of the yard!
 
We have a rodent explosion in Danville, CA. There must be 10 squirrels on my lot during any day, 4-5 raccoons on any night. Rats and skunks are unseen but they are here too.

I've tried the usual stuff, Cayenne pepper, ammonia, chili powder, flashing lights ultra sound. They just get used to it. California needs to have a raccoon and squirrel season.
 
Years ago I read a story about a man riding his new Honda Valkyrie down the road when a squirrel fell out of a tree, landed on him and somehow clawed its way into his helmet. The story was so funny I almost wet my pants laughing.

Squirrels are bushy tailed tree rats that are the scourge of the earth. We replaced the fascia on our house a few years ago after they had chewed through the wood to get into the attic. Why? Who knows. It was over 100 degrees F at the time so I know they weren't trying to avoid the cold weather. Inside the attic must have been about 140 degrees. We replaced the old boards with metal. Resulting in one chewing through that and still getting into the attic. I can hear him frequently but I can never catch him up there.

My wife puts red pepper flakes in the flower pots to try to keep them from digging up and destroying her container gardens. Doesn't help. They still kill plants on a regular basis. They also like digging in fresh dirt where we have tried to start new bushes and plants.

They have destroyed every nice bird feeder we've had. Now we use some contraptions made of metal that look like bank boxes to feed the birds. It's the only way we can keep out the miserable little rat *******s.

We have a pecan tree in our backyard but we seldom get pecans anymore because they take one bite out of the green immature nuts, toss them onto the ground below and destroy them before they can make mature pecans. Destructive and wasteful.

Years ago I declared war on the little ****s and started shooting them with a BB gun. For every one I killed, two more took his place so I ceased fire.

Am I a squirrel lover? Whaddaya think?

A friend in Montclare, drove the raccoons out of his basement by playing Heavy Metal Rock music in a boombox placed there, for their listening pleasure. They were gone the same night as the placement. He learned the trick from a neighbor.

We don't have squirrels in Australia, but the early settlers introduced every pest they could
so Oz would feel like England.
It doesn't and we now have a big problem. All native wildlife is protected from Humans but not from ferals.

That is what we did with Noriega in Panama'. It might work here in California, but outright killing a raccoon will get you a prison sentence. Probably longer than Noriega got.
 
There are sixteen confiners, Douglas Fir, Coast Sequoia and Western Red Cedars, between my neighbors back yard and mine. We have a lot of squirrels. Western Reds, Eastern Grays, little black one that dart about and constantly dig in our yards. The best one was when an Eastern Gray was launching himself between the branches of a Douglas Fir and didn't stick the landing. I watched him flutter down about twenty-five feet, smack belly first into my back yard, lay there for a couple of minutes until he shook himself back to life and dashed across the yard. Intrepid little buggers.
