Hi all,

I will be traveling to Jacksonville, FL tomorrow for a business conference and thought I would take one day to visit St. Augustine, FL
I want to visit Castillo de San Marcos National Monument while in St. Augustine.

I am seeking advice on what lenses I should bring with me when I visit St. Augustine and also any specific recommended photo opportunities.

I will probably be bringing my M6 and my R-D1. I may also bring my Mamiya 6 but I haven't made up my mind whether to bring that camera, too.

Thanks all!

Ellen

Wide angle would work well for the fort, I took a Sigma 10-20mm way back when I went there last. Clearly however, it all depends on what you plan on shooting and how you like to shoot.

If I remember correctly, there are some nice alleyways and narrow streets near the waterfront.

May I suggest Fort Clinch in Fernandina Beach as an alternative? It is about the same distance but north rather than south. I find there to be greater photo ops at Fort Clinch. Besides you will take the Mayport ferry across the St. Johns river going north, will pass by through some great natural areas, will pass by historic Kingsley Plantation, have the opportunity to see historic downtown Fernandina Beach. And the best of all is American Beach.

I agree with Bob. One of my favorite FL towns. It seems the paper mill has kept much of the crazy coastal development away.

I actually had my heart set on visiting St. Augustine, but I'm going to have to consider the suggestions to visit Fernandina Beach and Ft. Clinch instead.

The day I'll be making this trip is Wednesday afternoon so I have a few days to think about it.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

Pensacola is too far away for you, or I would have suggested to visit our sugar white beaches.

Enjoy your Florida visit.

Prepare for the heat this time of year!

Ahh, the heat. I am in Jacksonville right now and it's hard to believe that the LOW here is hotter than the HIGH back in Portland when I left on Saturday!

Thank goodness I'm used to high heat and humidity, having grown up in Washington, D.C. I spent many a brutal summer in the Nation's Capital when I was growing up.
