....but can it be done with Ilfotec LC29 (the developer I got handy just now), or does it have to be Rodinal? I really like the examples I've seen up to now.

I'm interrested in all your experiences concerning stand development!

I've heard few developers work well for stand development... Rodinal and HC-110 are those I remember...
I've found three variables I must care about: too little agitation, too high dilution and too low temperature... They can produce uneven development. So it's nice to find the limits...
Test a bit with your developer: you might find interesting results... Less agitation than normal can be great for direct sun and for pushing, to control contrast...
Cheers,
Juan

Juan spoke the truth. 🙂
Additionally, where I live, I need drinking water or distilled water to get stand dev working properly. Too many dissolved mineral in water can ruin the high dilution developer.

I've just started doing some stand development with Rodinal/APX100 and Caffenol/APX100. Both have worked very well, following instructions posted by people who have done similar things - there are quite a few resources on Flickr and elsewhere that provide this sort of information, as people who are into it tend to be pretty passionate about it.

OK, I did it!

Tried some stand development with HP5+ and Ilfotec LC29 at 1:100 dilution.

Agitated for the first minute and then left it alone for one hour.

The negs came out somewhat flat and the scans (examples following) are quite grainy.

I never liked HP5+ anyways, that's why I used one of my last rolls to do this test. Now is it the film, the method (LC29 instead of Rodinal) or anything else? I don't know.

I have to say that I exposed the same roll at 400 ISO, with some pics at 1600 ISO. Nearly all came out OK. Now is it the latitude of the film or the stand development that did some small miracle? I don't know.

Tell me what you think of the results please!!!!

Here are some of the results - just some random snaps and some tweaking in Aperture:

Looks good Mini! I can see some 'stand artifacts', particularly in the cat picture. But to my mind, this is part of the stand development charm.
