Hi all,

Does anybody know what is the status of the Leica service in Allendale, NJ? I understand NJ has been hit pretty badly along the coast.

About 7 weeks ago I sent my MP for a CLA (after 1000 rolls), last week I was told it was going to be shipped back on Friday (before Sandy). Never received a shipment confirmation number that day, and of course Sandy brought everything down on Monday.

I tried calling/email but nothing works. I hope people are all right.

Many towns in Bergen County are still without power. It is only in the last day or so that the power is starting to come back for some. Then there is the issue of gasoline -- stations cannot pump or ran out of gas, so lines are long just to fill up a tank of gas. People will not travel unless they absolutely have to.

I expect that it might take a while. For many the state of emergency continues.

Tried to e-mail my Leica Rep that I met at PhotoPlusExpo, but my e-mail was undelivered.

:( It seems as though Sandy has had effects no one could have predicted. I feel for the NJ residents that have been forced to pick up their homes piece by piece, and I am sure that this will have affected the speed at which you will have your gear returned. I hope your camera is safe and back in your hands by the end of the week! Good luck.

They also have my M7. Emails get bounced back as undeliverable and phone service sometimes has not gone through and, when it does, their system says the voice mailboxes are full. I am going to email Leica Germany next.

In the emails I sent I recognized that they are dealing with a lot more important things than my camera, that contact was being extended for when they resume operations, and that at this point perhaps it would be best for the camera to be send to Solms. I hope they are well.

I've been trying to reach the service department since Tuesday to authorize a repair estimate but have either gotten busy signals or "this voice mailbox is full" from the automated attendant.

When I called this morning before 8am, the recording said that they've been closed since Tuesday because of the hurricane. No ETA on when they plan to reopen (not that I expected one).

Hope everyone is coping well. As much as I'd like my Summilux back ASAP, people need to get their lives sorted out first.

Guys, I suggest you "stand down" until the middle of next week. As someone else has said, they are likely without power both at the business and at home -- so your M is not going to be top priority. Chances are great that your cameras are safe and sound at the Leica facility.

Fully agree.
The people who work there at Leica NJ have much bigger things to consider than their jobs at the moment. It's fair and reasonable to give a week before expecting the staff to arrive at and deal with their jobs at Leica.
I Highly doubt Leica will be forcing their employees to return to work so soon. It's not a grocery store, hospital, or, any other crucial service after all.

Stand down? I don't think anyone here is expecting Leica NJ to get back to normal anytime soon...

Amazing! I started this thread few hours ago, and just now UPS rang the doorbell and delivered a package from Leica Service in NJ.

It looks like the package left NJ yesterday. So, it seems that nobody can get hold of them (via phone/email), but it seems things are working out.

From a Leica Facebook post at ~16:00EST today, November 2...

They are still without phone/email service but the warehouse is functioning. They are processing shipments (at least inbound). They stated that the best way to contact them right now is via FB messaging -if you have an account, of course.

Leica NJ is back online. I spoke with them this morning and paid for my M7 service. They said there was no damage but some employees suffered "issues." There was a substantial hold to get to a person on the phone so they must be busy, but they were in good spirits once they answered.
