Hi folks - Just registered here after drinking-in lots of good info on Leica LTM's. What a treasure chest!

Thing is, I've just picked up a shiny-new Barnack O-serie (not really a thread-mount of course), and am learning it's weird and wonderful ways - like faithfully replacing the lens cap immediately after each exposure, remembering not to advance the film should I need to reset the shutter pin for the next frame (can't change it once the curtains are tensioned).

All fun, but the frame counter ring is totally unreliable.

When the slightest bit of downward pressure (down the shaft-line toward the body) is put on the winding knob during normal "human" winding, the counter ring stops rotating, then resumes whenever accidental downward pressure ceases. So I'm on #4, I'll wind and end up on #16, or #23, or whatever!

Is this a common quirk of all early LTM's, or is it something the Leica Service Elves should fix?

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks, Bruce

There's plenty of friction on it on my Leica IIIa, and my Canon IIF and IV-SB2. So I'd say something is funky. Unless they duplicated some design flaws of the original model...

John - Now there's a thought!

You know, they DID go with 50/20/10/5/2mm curtain openings and f3.5/6.3/9/12, so yeah, a possibility....I hope not!

Sure would like to hear from a few more folks with early Leica RF's on this frame counter ring thing.

Know you're out there.

Please? Pleeeeez?

Bruce
