Hi Bill - for a fair test I'd have to have the L1 serviced to bring it up to the same standard as the P. I was lucky buying my first P, which turned out to be pretty close to mint condition. The viewfinder on my L1 is not as good, but would improve with a service. (By not as good, I mean it's not as bright, and the contrast of the RF patch is not as clear. In some lighting conditions it's not easy to use at all. I'd say that's a function of it needing a service more than anything inherent in the design. )
The L1 offers a choice of viewfinder magnification, and should be better suited to a 35mm lens than the P, all else being equal.

Chris:
That's what I supected. The P is hard to beat. BTW I use a CV 35mm VF w/ my 35/2 since the 35mm framelines on the P are difficult w/ glasses and it's really great!
Thanks,
Bill
