Stephen Shore: Transparencies

Fascinating photographer and thinker. Have a look at his book The Nature of Photographs if you haven't seen it. Very cheap well produced paperback from Phaidon.

Love his large format work from the 70s. Not crazy about anything before or after.

Interesting thinker though and would like to check out the Nature of Photographs book.

Very cool... had no idea he brought a small format camera with him during those trips. I knew about American Surfaces with the Rollei 35, but not this... during the 70s, he did some nice work.

It's always interesting to see the work of well known photographers and to know their thinkings. I love the sentenc form the piece : Shore later described his democratic approach thus: “To see something ordinary, something you’d see every day, and recognise it as a photographic possibility – that’s what I’m interested in.”

Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

If you get a chance, have a look at the book "Winslow, Arizona" by Shore. All the photos were done in one single day for a project where he was involved. He used a digital Nikon for the photos and they look amazing.

Sometimes his ordinary 'things' approach really talk to me. But other times I feel he is just shooting and hoping something will be a masterpiece. So, I agree with nightfly.
