Ming Thein's review is much better but unfortunately it still seems like the cameras has problems handling highlight details at least the B/W examples seem to hint that way. I can see it as a possible upgrade from the pen ep5 for some user. The GX8 from Panasonics also seems to have problems with the highlights (example photos I have seen) same chip I guess. The older 16MP seems to handle highlights better than the new chip maybe a software update can help.

Seems that Olympus has underexposed and overdeveloped their 'Tri-x'![]()

If the price falls into $800 range, it will be a killer.

looks more like a screwmount leica than the pen f, and not in a good way.

nice looking camera, no doubt will be great performer as well. had almost forgotten Olympus existed since not much new came from them for a while.
front dial, Steve calls it the best feature of camera, and DPreview a dud (because it cannot be customised)

This old Pen makes me asking why no camera manufacturer today makes a simple small size digital point and shoot incorporating a real rangefinder and real manual focus and a fixed 35mm equivalent ?

Pretty full featured including "film" presets. Huff says "monochrome" setting output rivals the Leica Monochrom.
Of course it does..
a 4/3 sensor with colour array vs a dedicated B&W FF sensor.
I like that he makes a big deal that it is the best Pen ever. Of course it is, every single new version is better than the last.
What these blogger sites come down to is revenue generation for the blogger and the mfg. View them as entertainment and we'll all be happy.
p.s. I have no issue with the camera. it looks nice enough.

The monochrome samples are ok, just not consistent in quality, but that happens with real black and white film too.
Some of the B&W shots remind me more of Fomapan 400 than modern Tri X, especially the blocked highlights pics.
It is a nice compact camera with fine interchangeable lenses though.

AMEN !!!!
If that thing existed, I'd sell my Canon 5D, Fuji X100 and Olympus XA and go for it!

This thing leave me scratching my head. Two of the most prominent dials are for functions I never use. The big mode dial on top should be a shutter speed dial. I shoot in M 99% of the time so that huge mode dial seems like a huge waste of space. I never change shooting mode but I constantly change shutter speed. The front dial also should be for something useful like ISO. I only use RAW so I would never touch that front dial. This is not a tool I could use seriously. YMMV.

Because it's too tempting and easy for engineers and marketing people to "add features".

The best camera is one that still works!
That is a gorgeous looking camera IMO and it's great that Olympus may have finally kicked a real goal. I suspect they'll sell a heap of these.
Personally I like everything about it.

The Keith's are in agreement on this!
I really want to handle this camera. There are many features in many cameras I've owned that I have never used or needed. But if the majority of the camera features functions as a tool for me, so be it.
Hubcaps, leather interiors, arm rests, air conditioning, cigarette lighters are things I don't really need either. But if they are included, great.

I'm just relieved that I'm not buying any new gear at the moment because I would have to have one ... in spite of not being a huge fan of the four thirds format.
Seriously .... it's a stunning little camera!
