I bought this lens used years ago, and at the time, the focus tab felt buttery smooth. I then did not use the lens for a number of years, I was surprised to find that the tab itself had literally fallen off, and also, when focusing the lens toward the infinity side, the resistance builds up quickly, and then gets stuck at around 10ft mark. At this position, the aperture ring also develops increased resistance, with a tendency to remain stuck at whatever position it’s in. But when the focus tab is moved over to the closer focus distance end, the aperture ring moves like it’s supposed to.

The lens otherwise looks clean internally. I’m just struck at how much of a change this is, it probably developed due to being unused for several years? What is the reason for this issue?

Is this something DAG can fix? It seems that the previous owner of this lens tried to shave down the inner barrel of the lens. The lens doesn’t focus properly, is this also something that can be fixed?

Edit - I should add, the reason it stayed on the shelf for so long, is because I realized I’m a 35mm person haha. Long term plan is to get it back to par, then sell it for someone to actually use,

It certainly sounds like the barrel is somehow out-of-round; a focusing tab that falls off hints at a drop or impact. Hopefully it can be serviced back into usable condition.

That's a job for DAG. He can fix the focus problems, he's got all the Leitz tools.

Awesome! Thanks

This is what surprised me the most. The tab was actually still sort of in place, but as soon as I picked up the lens, the tab just fell out. It’s been sitting on a shelf in my bedroom, I wonder if someone accidentally knocked it down, but even then, it was kept in a soft, cushiony bag. Anyhow, will send it over to DAG and hope for the best
