Sticky residue after removal of baseplate sticker - My solution

Bought a used chrome 0.72 M7 from Ken Hansen recently (TOP guy to deal with)

Decided to remove the baseplate sticker today. God knows how long the sticker has been there so lo and behold, sticky residues everywhere.
Tried my usual trick with tape to remove the residue - hopeless :bang:
So, I removed it with toothpaste and towel. Boy it worked like a treat 😀. All the residue came of with ease, the baseplate is not harmed at all.

Now I have a clean and like new baseplate ready for me to leave my mark 🙂 - Going to Hong Kong in 2 days!

Lighter fluid will do it too. I put my name/ phone # on the baseplate w/ a Dymo labeler to protect the surface.

After almost two years, I finally got around to removing the sticker from my M9 on Thursday, while waiting with my wife to see her eye doctor (all went well).

1: Peel off VERY carefully and slowly

2: Alternative applications of baby-wipes (I always carry some in the car for getting oil off my fingers) and paper towels.

It's black paint, so there's still a square of different texture where the sticker was, but that'll polish off with use. Or I might try toothpaste -- thanks for the idea.

Tootpaste, assuming it is not a gel, has abrasives in it that's why it works as mild polishing paste. I used it on camera after removing painted RICOH from pentaprism of XR-20sp (and some other lettering, too).

The one I used was a clear looking colgate whitening toothpaste...... So you might wanna be careful using it on black Ms.....ha ha

My cleaning went smoothly. No scratch at all. Having said that, the 'surface' of a black paint is different from the chromes so I am not sure how it'd work...

wd40 is what i used on my M8 not bothered taking the sticker off my m9.

In the US, we get a citrus-based product called Goo-Gone that does a very effective job of removing adhesive residue. Not sure if it is available in Oz.

A little Goo Gone always does the trick.

I don't bother taking off the little stickers...they usually fall off after 30 years...

+1 for Goo-Gone...

What we do have in Australia is Eucalyptus oil, very good for this. My M6 is from the early '90s if I remember correctly. Amazing how durable the baseplate sticker is. I don't think it will ever fall off.
