Stolen Hasselblad at USC game

Excited and distracted by last nights stanford-USC game I failed to notice someone walk out with my 500cm with 80mm f28 lens. :bang:http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif

I doubt whoever stole it even knows what they grabbed.

What would you do at this point were u in my shoes?

I am filing a police report once I track my serial numbers. Is there a way to flag the item in case it gets on one of the auction sites etc?

Why did you take a hassy to a football game!!?? In any case did you ask around/check cctv etc? Do you have the serial numbers etc? Keep a lookout on craigslist and ebay as well.

BTW great game wasn't it?
 
Time to buy a point and shoot cam.
I recommend the Olympus Stylus Epic / Yashica T4. They are beer-proof-- I can say from experience.

+1 this. Why? My mommy always said, "If you want to keep something nice, leave it at home." A football game in the stands is time for beer, beer and more beer, not Swedish medium format cameras. But since you never listened to your mother, call the cops, check CCTV for your section, and, I dare say, even check Lost and Found for poops and giggles. Check Craigslist, the pawn shops, etc.

Sorry about sounding like a jerk (as I'm sure the other posters are), but pretty much only idiots or pro shooters bring anything more than a P&S to a football game (and in the land of cell phone cameras, not even a P&S anymore). Having nice things stolen is one of the things which happen when when you stick 50,000-80,000 people in a big concrete bowl and add several dozen kegs of beer (drunk idiots steal things occasionally). Add to the equation the location (a college town in California), and you're just asking for it to be stolen.

For everyone, this is why I keep an Excel spreadsheet with all this serial number info. You never know what's going to go missing/get stolen.

Uh...pardon my being a party pooper. But this gentleman posted this thread asking for advice. Instead, what he's getting is a lot of fingerwagging lectures about not bringing expensive cameras to a ball game.

It's just me, but I think he has already learned that lesson on his own. Unless there is something to gain by kicking someone when they're down.

+1. I would say that it IS worth trying to recover. Are we all assuming this has only monetary value to the OP? Maybe its a family heirloom? or the only camera this person has? IIWY, I would file a police report, see if the CCTV could help, and check craigslist a couple times.
As stated, there is a decent chance that the thief doesnt realize the type of equipment they stole, which means they would get rid of it at some point, and this makes it more prone to coming up on searches.

Lastly, and perhaps more importantly, I would file a police report if you have any way of recapturing your monetary loss. For example, I have homeowners insurance (though I only rent), which covers theft of my items even if i am outside my home, eg at a football game.

Watch craigslist, eBay, and warn buyers at places like this posting the serial#. Don't take any grief. I buy cameras to enjoy them any where I go. You should too. I would also alert the school. Both teams.
 
Thanks everybody! I do appreciate all the comments. Brought the hassy to the stanford tailgate because I saw friends I hadn't seen In 20 years. It was the Stanford tailgate so it was safe. 😉. At an rate i wI'll repost with any details. I will pursue it electronically and with police

Yes, constructive ideas for almost impossible recovery. But I must say there are still some that I wouldn't have thought of.
 
Do everything you can think of, and don't give up!

I foolishly and accidentally left my Hexar AF on a random bus in Seattle. Despite an incredibly frustrating voicemail loop, I was able to work with an operator to at least identify where I could meet the same bus hours later.

Turned out a good Samaritan turned the camera into the driver. He told me he was glad to see me!

Good luck- you never know...
 
Doesn't hurt to try to find it.... but this is why I wear my camera around my neck... no way to lose it then (though most RFFers are afraid of looking like a dork / tourist or not being stealth enough).
 
I've had cameras (M4 outfit once and then a CLE) stolen and they never show up anywhere. I think the thieves throw them in the garbage after they realize they are film cameras.

File a police report and contact your homeowner's (or renter's) insurance company. If you have a policy you're covered.
 
I assume it's not just the camera, but also the film in it that has sentimental values to you, correct?

I'd do more than watch on craiglist.
Consider also to post a Help to find / Reward ad.

A reasonably substantial reward always motivates people to be more watchful.

Any camera stores in the area? Might be an idea to leave details there.
Is there a Lost & Found service at the stadium? In case the thief dumped it somewhere on his way out.
