and bought the 75/2.5 CV. A nice, solid handful, without being too heavy or massive. Focus ring is a little stiffer than the 35/2.5 that came with the camera, but I suppose it'll wear in a bit.


I'll take it for a walk tomorrow and put it through it's paces. Now...i'm starting to allow impatience to creep in. With my DLSR, popping the memory card into the reader gets me instant gratification. I'm thinking HARD about starting to soup my own negatives again....(sigh)...

Gonna go down to the basement and rummage around and see if I threw my old tanks and graduates away...

SOMEBODY STOP ME...I refuse to go the whole nine yards and start printing again...

Forget it, Don... This is like asking a fellow drinker in a bar at closing time where the next AA meeting takes place. In other words, if you want to resist... you're on your own.

In fact, I'm already looking around for a reason to go shopping for another lens...probably a used 50 or something. That will be my final lens, because I'm looking for a SMALL kit to haul around without having to designate another carrying bag, space in the closet, etc...

Tomorrow I'm gonna dig around the basement and see if I have any developing gear left...

Photo Village is a rough place to visit. Too much stuff, too many choices and its a shame not of it is cheap. Makes for tough impulse buys. Great place though. Thats where I got my r3a and lenses.

you don't believe the next lens will be the last? Yeah, well...you're probably right. Doubt if I'll swap out any of the "primary" three (35,50,75), but I MIGHT experiment with a 21, a 25, or a 28, or a 40, or a 90.....

Guess it's hopeless, isn't it?

Skip the 50 and go with a 25/4, you'll get more use out of it. IMHO, 35/50/75 is too tight a mix. Most folks go around 2x between lenses, some less, others more (like me, I do 2.6x between my main kit 15/40/105).

About the only thing a 50 would give you is speed, but with speed comes size. If you're happy with the 35/2.5, my gut tells me you will be fine with a 25/4, it's a great lens.

I appreciate your thoughts, B2. Yeah, the progression is a bit snug, but that's a holdover from my propensity for using zoom lenses on my SLR's, both film and digital. Right now, with only the 35 and 75, I'll just frame stuff a bit loose, and crop after scanning the images. Actually, jumping around using the different cameras and formats (1.6 crop in DSLR), I've learned to avoid thinking too much about what I'm shooting...just reacting. Getting used to the rangefinder again after a lot of years of SLR shooting is great! It's forced me to revert back to the idea of paying closer attention to the details, instead of allowing the techniques of SLR use to dictate how I shoot.

Well you could mount it on a new M8 and have the worst/best (you choose) of all possible worlds!

Nope! Picked up the rangefinder again because it IS different. Same reason I still use the film 35mm SLR along with the digital SLR. I think it makes me look at stuff a little differently when I use different lenses, cameras, film, etc.... Don't even know if I actually prefer any gear over any other gear. Besides...I'd NEVER be able to spend the money for an M8, even when they get the kinks worked out!

I've never been a zoom person due to being a speed freak. During high school I used a 24/85/200 system. After I started working I built a system with a lot more lenses, but then moved to a three lens RF system 21/35/90. I used the lenses about 4%/80%/16%. I think you will find the 35/75 a great two lens set up. I have that set on loan to my son to start photography with. Unlike a SLR system, you can zoom with your feet very easily. RFs are smaller and people do not seem to notice them as much.

Go out and shoot, ask and share.
