Just chanced upon one of these on ebay offered by a RFF member and it's ending in less than 3 hours...

I don't believe this is part of the regular offering for the silver or the black canon 85mm f/1.9lens.
Anyone has more information?
Cheers,

Maybe Peter Kitchingman will see this and give us his thoughts. My guess is that the hood shown is for the black 85/1.9.

I have a black straight-sided hood marked Canon 85mm f/1.9 with a series VII clamp-on adapter. Looks nothing like the one in that eBay auction.
Interesting.

Just noticed in Peter's book that Canon made two screw-in hoods for the chrome models of the 85/1.9 and one type of clamp-on hood for the black 85/1.9. The eBay auction appears to be one of the screw-in types.

Interesting hood but it belongs to the 85mm f/1.9 lens made for the TV cameras used by PYE, RCA and NHK during the late 1950’s and 60’s. I have attached some literature from a 1958 salesman’s catalogue showing the various lenses that Canon supplied at that time to these different companies. I have also included a pic of the 135mm f/3.5 “tapered” hood attached to an RCA mount 135mm f/3.5 lens. I have pictured this lens in my book on page 161 which at the time I was unsure of the origin of the mount but have since researched them and found out the above information. The lens cap I have not seen before but seem to be deeper in profile than the normal 85mm and 135mm caps and this is seen on my tapered 85mm f1.9 hood which has marks where the hood was fitted. The clamp-on hood was the normal hood for the rangefinder black lenses. Research goes on.

That's some good information Peter!
I saw a set some time back, but only picked up the 35mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.9 for the fun of it. I believe it's the NHK mount version. Interesting.
Cheers,

The tv hood discussed in this thread fits the black screw-mount 85/1.9. Is the tv mount 85/1.9 the same as the screw mount version except with a different mount? If so, it might be appropriate to use the hood on the screw mount version.

HI Brett
When I first collected the "tappered" hood I wasn't sure where it fitted in the Canon RF accessory list. It wasn't until I purchased a Canon salesman folder covering all items between the 1957-60 that I found out what they were used on. The lens head of the 85mm f/1.9 is the same as the standard RF lenses, just the mount is different. The hood will screw into a normal RF lens and I suppose would be a better attachment to the clamp-on hood, it sometimes can be knocked of the lens. Nice to see you back. Peter
