I developed a TriX film (EI200) in Rodinal 1+50. I am shure i did everything right. Before i developed, the developer was slightly transparent red/orange as usual. When i was finished with the developing, the developer was dark purple.

When the fixing was done, and i had washed the film a little bit, i checked the film because i was concerned about the dark purple colour. The film was milky white, but it seemed like it was some information in the pictures.

The developer is quite old, but i deluted it with water just before i developed the film, so the dilution was fresh. I have used the developer recently with other films, with good results (and with no sign of what happened now).

Why did that happen? What can i have done wrong? Is it possible that the developer has been exhausted over the night?

The the dark purple stuff is normal, it is sensibilizing agent coming out of film. I have this only with Rodinal too, but negs come out just fine. I also develop it at EI200 for 9 minutes in 1:50.

Sounds like a problem with fixer to me. Make a fresh batch and try re-fixing.

Newbie here, how do you re-fix the negatives?

Thank you!! My brother and father said the same, and i am going to refix the film right now.

[Edit:]

This is caused by incomplete fixing, whether bad fixer or insufficient time. I one shot my fixer but even doing that I didn't fix Tmax100 long enough to remove the anti-halation layer (purple). So use fresh fixer and do it for enough time. 1-800-242-2424 ext 19 is the number where you will get a person at Kodak. And they know what they are talking about.
