I have been shooting a bit with Contax bodies.

I just received a Contax RTS with a strange metering/exposure problem.

- As you turn the aperture dial from stop to stop, the metered shutter speed should halve or double with each 1-stop change. Instead, it shifts 4x for each 1-stop change in aperture. That is, if it reads 1/125th at f/5.6, it will meter 1/500 at f/4 and 1/30th at f/8. Honest! This is really weird.
- In tests with film, the actual exposure matches what is incorrectly metered.
- At f/5.6 the meter is correct; matches other meters and gives good exposures.
- At f/1.7, the camera underexposes by more than 2 stops. Very thin negatives.
- and at f/16, the camera overexposes by more than 2 stops. Very dense negatives.

Before I send it off to Mark Hama, anyone have any ideas how this could be happening?

Previous owner says it worked fine last he used it some years ago. Battery is good. Same lens on another body gives good metering and exposure.
