Strange filter nomenclature?

Hey forumites,
I'm looking for filters that'll work on a 50mm f/1.4 that I've ordered. I came across a deep yellow stamped "Canon Japan 48mm Y3 2X"
I know there are Y2 and Y1 filters but can't find info on Y3s... Anyone ever heard of or used one? Should I buy it as a rarity?

From the Canon System Equipment catalog in about 1968, the B&W filters offered were: UV 0x, Y1 1.5x, Y3 2x, G1 3x, O1 3x and R1 6x. The color filters were: 1A Skylight 0x, 80B, 80C, 81A, 82A, 85, and 85B; users were referred to the film instructions to find the film speeds with the color correction filters.

Because it means twice (2x) the exposure..... not +2 stops. (BTW I have this filter for my Canon 50 1.4 LTM and it's a great B/W filter and very thin.)

Of course - twice because the stop scale is geometric, not arithmetic; sq. root of 2, etc., which I should've remembered (from my youth when 'the world was in black + white' as my son is fond of telling me...)

Can anyone tell me if I'm correct in thinking the Canon CCA (Colour Correction Amber?) filter is an 85b equivalent? I've seen CCA4 1.5x filters and a CCA8...

The Japanese Y series filters are generally similar to the old Wratten system K series. Both series have 3 variants, each progressively "stronger". Actually, that are all band pass filters and not tinted filters. Their cut-off frequency and the slope of the curve vary. "Stronger" applies to their visual appearance and the effect they have.

Maybe a K12 (K8 is typical Med Y: 2x, K15 is deep Y: 3-4x, K12 is in-between, still 2x?).
