I keep finding this weird darkening on the left or right (never both) in pictures taken with my Mamiya 7ii and only using the 65mm lens. It's a slightly curved darkened area on each frame. I can not figure out why its happening, but it's driving me nuts. Any ideas appreciated. I suppose I really need to send it in for service (I use http://precisioncameraworks.com/), but thought if there was an easy explanation... I almost always use the hood, but can't think why the defect would switch sides if it was that.

There are plenty more to be found by looking through the M7 images here:

Hi,

Did you check the neg to see if the defect is on the neg even on the unexposed part (top / bottom frame) ?

It may be due to the curve of the film, especially if there is a lot of time during two shoots. The mecanically curved film may generate over/under-development. I had the same problem with a thick film like TMY in a roll back. Your problem may depends on the film type and lab/revelator used.

Scanning Problem?

Scanning Problem?

It looks to me like a problem with the scanning. I had the same problem when scanning in my RZ negs on my Epson 4980. If the problem is not on the negs themselves than I think that is your culprit. Are the negs with the problems cut where they are having the problem. With my problem it was a neg that was cut and was on the edge of a strip so when placed in the film holder it would curl up and cause the discoloration just like you. Hope this is it, a lens problem would be no fun.

Looks like it was the scanner. I replaced the old Epson 2450 I was using with a 4990 after posting this and have not seen the artifact so far. I rescanned one of the images mentioned and the problem was gone. What a relief that it isn't on the film! I guess I didn't notice it before because with color neg film, it's hard to see subtle things like that.

Thanks for the help!
