This weekend I spent some time with my fed 2 and the "sticky instructions" on how to clean it. Everything went almost as planned. I got everything off, cleaned it, put it back together (halfway) and noticed that the RF patch in the VF is not a simple circle anymore. It has acquired a new shape: one vertical line to the right and one horizontal line on the bottom (as on image shown below)
what do you think it could be? Do I need to cover something on the inside?
thanks.

Hi,
Haven't seen this one exactly but I would pop the yop off again. Then hold it up or perhaps easier use a tripod and look through the finder. Use a piece of card or paper and move it around until you block off the extra bit. That should tell you where it is coming from.

The Fed-2 has a small metal mask that makes the secondary image circular. It must have been moved out of place before you re-assembled it.
Just take the top off and make the adjustment .
I have wondered if this mask couldn't be re-cut into a rectangle that would approximate the size and shape of a Jupiter-9 frame. That would allow the the secondary image to double as a telephoto frame.
