Hey guys

I got a beautiful Minolta Scan Multi II from a friend who got it from someone, who got it from someone else, etc. I like it a lot, and I have managed to find and old SCSI-capable machine to run it from. Works like a charm, apart from one small, but irritating issue.

Each scan from medium format (taken with the original Anti-Newton Minolta holder) exhibits a strange texture visible mostly in the shadows.

Please have a look:

What you are looking for is this paper-like texture, all around. It's not just grain, there is something more in it.

Any clues on how to get rid of this? I have just found a post on photo.net from John, who's experiencing similar issue - someone had recommended 'tweaking the focal point', and I may try it.

However, I am thinking if there is anything else I should do.

Any suggestions? I would really love to use it more... I have plenty of medium format stuff to scan, and this is the best option available to me.

I will be grateful for any help.

Many thanks!
Wojtek

Make sure the base side of the film is against the AN surface.

If that does not work, then remove the AN glass and/or replace it with AN glass from a slide mount.

Wet scan kit.

I am happy to say that I have fixed the issue.

I have tried re-focusing, etc. but finally the only thing that worked was to remove both Anti-Newton glasses. With one the texture got smaller, with both removed it disappeared.

Please have a look. A photograph where both Anti-Newton glass plates were removed is on the left, and the 'textured' one is on the right.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions.
