Fellow photographers; Greetings! Haven't been very active here lately, but wanted to drop a note just the same.

In March, I began work on a portrait series. I am calling it "Strangers & Not So Strange". The work is being carried out exclusively on Fuji FP-100C via my Mamiya RB67 with a Pola-back and 90/127mm lenses. The series, as it continues to grow, can be viewed HERE.

Film isn't cheap, and I've bought all I can at this point. To help keep the project moving through summer, as well as deep into the future, I've picked up extra work where I can. I am also offering a sampling of the work-to-date, below. Thanks for considering my offer.

To help sustain this project, I have assembled a softcover book containing selected images from the series. This is not intended as a final retrospective as work will continue for months going forward, perhaps years.

My cut of each purchase is $5--that is, Blurb charges $15.95 per unit for materials and services. The rest goes to me, and will be used to continue working on the project.

If you have specific questions regarding this offering, please contact me before purchasing. Otherwise, thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy the book.

Sincerely,
CE Nelson

Looks like Lulu give you a little more control: you can upload a PDF directly rather than being forced to convert it using Blurb's software.

Blurb has two levels of quality

Blurb has two levels of quality

and at the format being offered (7 by 7) the printing is done on some sort of machine that delivers very poor reproduction and off colors, at least in the copy of the book I bought. The photos are printed on a black background and the colors of the hair and background are often muddy and greenish. I'm not sure if this is caused by the aforementioned difference in printers (the larger formats get printed on some printer different from the 7 by 7 smaller format) or the way the photos were photoshopped. I ordered the book because I like the project, and wanted to see what the quality of the smaller book would be, and the copy I have is NOT a recommendation to use Blurb, by any means.
More discussion of the printer difference is available on the flickr group for Blurb.

The 7x7 books from Blurb are toner-based, not inkjet. There is some unintended color-shifting and -casting, some blocking in the shadows.

The project was/is intended to be a sampler, not a fine-art final offering. The end-result will produce on high-end inkjet or offset. In short, it is what it is.

My greatest fear was of materials being shoddy, with books falling apart, etc. I am delighted to report that I have abused the crap out of my copy, carrying it with me everywhere, encouraging others to handle the book without great are. The spine remains stable, no pages plucked, no rips, etc. Printing is less-than-quality with the toner-based pages, but the book seems built to last.

I sold a good number of them, and am thankful. Once royalties come in, they'll be applied to film stocks, etc.

Best,
Craig
