Thanks to both of ya'll for putting this together.
I appreciate the way the contest was run and the honesty in which the winner was chosen...many contest pretend that there is some formula and blah, blah, blah to pick the winner.

Stephen - I also like you choice and honestly I think it is a better photo, but again it is all just personal preference and not some formula.

Chris - keep doin' what your doin and supporting this great 'art' called streetphotography.

I will continue to try to win a contest with my streetphotos...but I realize that it is not important if I lose.
My friends, family and myself like my work...f' the rest (channeling cweeks 😉)

guys, you are certainly entitled to your less than flattering views of Weeks, but there are few things you might not know about him. even if you dislike him, spending that much time writing about street photography is not a bad thing.

First off, he is fairly successful at what he does. Weeks can make more money in one day than from his celebrity pics than most pro photogs make in a year. Ditto occasionally from one day stock sales.

His stock file is over 3,000,000 images. He adds 300,000 to 400,000 images a year.

SFAIK, Weeks is the only major celebrity photog film shooter left in Los Angeles. He shoots Leica M's for his personal work and when the job allows, EOS when SLR required. When shooting on the red carpet with his M, other shooters have actually asked him "what's that?".

His writing style is one thing, but in person Weeks is personable and likable, with a predictably quick wit. And yeah, as you might have guessed, he is a friend. We have coffee about once a week in the Starbucks jungle.

It's true that I don't know Weeks personally. (However, based on our new Bartender's recent post then he is a friend of a friend...)

But far more people would be in my shoes -- that is, someone who knows of Weeks only by his photographs and his writing.

His writing definitely paints a certain kind of picture. Weeks, successful or not, projects a very unflattering image of himself through at least this one written work that I have seen. Certainly it is not an image that I would want for myself.

But then he made it pretty clear (or so it seems in the written word) that he couldn't care less what others think.

Yeah and apparently right after winning the photographer changed the date of the photo to conform with contest rules...

I read the photographer's explanation for the change. It appears that it was an error on his part in the intial input - and the photograph was indeed taken within the contest rules.

He *could* be lying. But I'm inclined to take him at his word. Besides, from what I could tell the only people who had a serious issue with it didn't have a chance at winning anyway.

Anyway congratulations to all involved in the contest. It was a grand experiment, and a generous collaboration.

Chris - if you read this - nice work (you lousy *#@%&) 😉

I like Chris Weeks' work and his input on this forum. I didn't pay attention to the last contest, so I can't comment on that.

Wow, I'm a litle shocked at that winner. I much prefer Gandy's choice. The winner is a sort of picture that we have all seen a million times, no better than the "easy" kid pics that the judges deride in their commentary. A kiss and a lonely oldster. Homeless next to bourgeoisie. That's all it takes? And, why in the world were that many people in one place kissing at once? At least that much of the picture, if not the "homeless" woman as well, absolutely *reeks* of set-up.

OK, thanks for running a contest that produced a lot of interesting pictures. I appreciate the final choice, even though it does seem too conventional for my taste - on one hand, this is a street photography contest and it's no wonder that a classic street shot wins; on the other, since the contest was held on DeviantArt I would have expected a little more deviant art.
