Street photography is a dangerous sport...

Hahahah :)

You're all getting ideas :p

I've just removed the logo on my cam... And I don't look like a creepy old man. In fact, I look kinda young (even if I'm not). People always think I'm a student, even at the school I teach...

I'm just wearing a long scarf as my usual wear, nothing more nothing less. It's just hard to see the camera because my scarf is so long that it always hide my arm, camera attached or not.

And I'm always very discreet... I do not get spotted really often. ;p

Good call with the wolfs, thought.... :p

Anyway, this small adventure made me think about getting a knife or something. I really do not want to stop taking street photo just because a crazy french dad (I'm french also... no offense) wanted to kill me that day.

I just thought I'd step in to say that's the worst thing you can EVER do. It's one thing to learn martial arts (I did judo and switched to wing chun, and depending on where you live I think it can actually be pretty essential, photography or not. I'd recommend it to anyone), but the second you bring a weapon into the mix, everything gets a whole lot worse. It escalates things to a whole different level, and knives are the worst of the lot; if you get disarmed, you can get killed with your own weapon. In fact, even if you keep hold of it, there's a good chance you could get cut up by it in the scuffle.

I'm pretty sure that you were kidding. But just on the off-chance you weren't... well, I thought it was better to play safe.

I was kidding. This is indeed very stupid, I would be in jail now if I did put a knife in that messy soup, ninja scarf or not. And just to attack a dad in front of his kids and wife... Jeez, I'm not a monster.

I just thought this was ironic that a photographer (which I think is something somewhat neutral in the process) to take action, especially using violence, to get away with a moment. I did not took the child in a bath suit or something, I was only grabbing candid shots; that's all :p ...

Anyway, I do not sale most of my pictures by respect for the subject.

When someone threatens physical harm, it's a crime. Would you hand over your wallet and not report the incident to the police?

I routinely take pictures of children on the street and in parks. I have three neices. Some nutjob might think he can run around intimidating people, but you'd have to be a real pervert to think any picture of a kid is sexual.

I've not had anything like this, but some people ask to see what I've taken and I have no problem with that. Though like you said with these times i'd always ask to photograph a child.

In this country at least, taking photos of children is fraught with misinterpretation. While the photographer may be an artist, capturing a moving scene, the parents may well see that photographer as a pedophile. Ask yourself, is the photo of another person's child the story you set out to tell or is it just a nice shot. Chances are it was a nice shot.

Save yourself the trouble and avoid other people's kids. There are plenty of other stories to tell.

My own rules for urban photography or anywhere where lots of people are present: No kids unless it is apparent to all that they are in the background and clearly not the prime focus of the shot. No homeless or disabled people for obvious reasons. Blend in. Be invisible and your stories can be told.

Yeah, no this no that. What has the world come to? Pathetic really. I much prefer Asia. No problems taking whatever picture you like.
