"Street Walking D-Lux-3", not M8, but.......

This is a great setup you have here. Does the flash pop up automaticialy in low light or does it have to be manually switched on? I was thinking of one of these cameras myself for street shooting.

I especially like your idea of putting a hood on it! Brilliant!

The finder... it's fixed focal length?

Hi, thanks for the comments. The flash operates normally, that is in P mode or one of the Scene Modes if the flash is needed it will pop up and fire, it just clears the viewfinder. I shoot in A, aperture priority mode with the flash turned off. The CV Mini-Finder is a 28/35 focal length with bright line frames and is bright and sharp, it is a nice piece. Thanks, Jim

I'm sure the flash never auto-pops-up with this camera.

It has a physical lock and has to be manually raised for it to function.

how is the shutter lag? Does it allow for any kind of prefocus?

I'm trying to find a compact digital that doesn't suck in that regard. (I fear it's a hopeless quest.)

-doesnt the hood become useless as soon as the lens pops out?

-rogue, the d-lux3 / lx1-2 allow for manual focus and shows hyperfocal distances on the focusing scale.

It looks good and purposeful, and I especially think the second strap lug is a nice twist. But with all the bits and bobs added, it doesn't appear very pocketable anymore..

Flash?

Flash?

Jim,

How do you get your flash to pop up automatically? On mine, the flash switch has to be opened manually before the flash can be used. In fact, the flash selector function is disabled until the flash unit is physically raised. My instruction book confirms this also, on P43.

Am I missing something?

Regards
Ernst

I just tried mine in the "scene modes".

At least with my camera, the flash is inoperative unless you manually raise it.

It never "pops up". My instruction book also confirms this.

PS: If you would post the exact sequence and settings you use on yours to make it "pop up", I'll try it on mine. My feeling is that you are somehow mistaken.

mia clupa, mia culpa, mia culpa.....the flash does NOT pop up automatically.....just goes to show I don't use flash much, or at all. Thanks for the comments, yes the hood is a bit less than fully functional when the lens is in shooting position, but some hood is better than none. And yes with the finder and hood the D-Lux-3 does not fit in a shirt pocket anymore, it does fit in my jacket pockets and besides it is real hard to take pictures with the camera in your pocket in any case.

All of the mods were done with, wait for it.........Gorrilla Glue!!!! YES. The additional strap lug came from a junker, I filed a slight curve in and glued it on. The finder was carefully positioned and glued on as well. The hood has a push on lens cap that I cut out and then the hood is glued to that, so it is still removable.

I think with a fair amount of pressure the pieces can be popped off and the camera is back to normal.

You can see some of my shots at www.photoday.scolman.com.

Thanks for all the interest.....but in the long run the camera is a tool and the main thing is the pictures. Thanks, Jim.
