Stubborn Yashica 35

Hi,
Some time ago a Yashica 35 ended in my hands. It came without battery, with only the one mechanical speed working (1/500 I believe). I got a 6v 4LR44 battery, used some paper and euro-cents to fit the size of the battery compartment and it came alive. Well, sort of. The battery check light is working, but the lightmeter considers every scene underexposed (even when pointing in direct source of light) and the shutter fires still only the 1/500 speed.
Could this be easily repairable? Is it worth it?

You probably mean Electro 35, as plain 35 is kind of this. Then, with battery only change you have noticed, is B.C. light, not variations in shutter speeds.

Do red and amber exposure lights come on? What happens ig you completely cover light meter window, do shutter works at longer than 1/500 speeds?

Yes, it is the Electro 35, of course.
Whatever I do with the lightmeter window (cover it or point it to a light source), the behavior of both the exposure light and shutter is the same - the light for "underexposed" comes on and the shutter fires with the 1/500 speed.

What the pad of death might be? (EDIT: I've already googled the P.A.D. thread)

Symptoms you describe are known when POD is gone.
Each new thread on POD makes wisdom more obscure, hiding solutions under heap so I will not even start again.

Googling on "yashica electro POD pad death" should bring to surface most of relevant legacy. I suggest going microsurgery route - less risk of tearing wires. It's appropriate even for first time camera repair experience.
