^ I don't consider that cheating. Before digital people used polaroids to make sure the lighting was correct before shooting the real thing. I'd say using the D200 before shooting with the Hassy is pretty much the same thing.

Ditto on this point. The older masters used the Polaroids, today we use digital to check our work before shooting the good stuff. Many of us do this, not cheating at all.

...and nice shots there 😀

Considering you could easily spend more on a top end studio meter than your D200 is worth I don't see a problem! 😀

For some reason I can't view that second pic.

Can you assume the translation will be completely predictable? I have used my D90 that way and wasn't happy with the results.

I don't see why not. ISO, aperture and shutter speed do no differ from digital to analogue. In my case it usually works. Result might be different in a camera that needs a CLA. Or possibly when you develop your film inconsistently. This was shot on FP4+, a film I often process and know well.

Just as different films have different imaging characteristics, maybe there is also a difference between film and a digital sensor? I don't have experience using digital as a Polaroid proof, I'm just suggesting the possibility. As previously stated, you may not get exactly the same result on film as your digital proof, but it's better than shooting in the dark, so to speak.

Its not about the accuracy of the shutter speeds or aperture, its about the sensor rendering the same light message to a screen compared to whatever film your using. I have has some good results but some really bad ones too.

Shot this one yesterday in the studio. My girl was shooting my D700 so I found what looked like a good picture from it and transferred the numbers over to my Hassy 500C/M and shot up a roll. Here's one:
