Suggestion for securing viewfinders

The big heavy CV 12mm VF fell out of the shoe again!!!!!! This time onto limestone paving………. and clattering to a standstill it makes exactly the unpleasant noise you’d expect, optical glass against stone, not nice
Anyway by some miracle that big aspherical front element is unmarked; in fact the only damage is a small scratch on the foot and an easily fixed dislodged element directly behind the front cover.
That was probably the third time I’ve dropped it so I really need to find a way to secure it, has anybody found a good way of retaining auxiliary viewfinders please?

I use some thin card stock glued to the foot. Just adds enough thickness to keep the finder secured, but not overly so that it is difficult to remove. I've had this problem only with my M4-2. Different shoe compared to other M bodies. Damaged a new 21mm Leitz finder when it came loose and fell onto concrete. Still useable, but the internal element rattles around.

Never had a loose finder, luckily. Noel's idea might be the best. With dicey straps I use fishing line. On a finder it would be barely visible.

Yes this only seems to be the 12mm in the double adapter, this one rattled after the fall but it was just a bit of caulking that had become dislodged, an easy fix

That would be a possibility to play around with, I’ve never understood why they don’t clip in; like the hot-shoe cover on the OM1, it had a little sneck to hold it in place, I would glue it to the adaptor if I only used it on the L, but it’s too high on other bodies

In another manual-photography life, I found a box of the right sized rubber bands, and looped one around the "neck" of the VF, and then forward and down and over the lens. Goes from back of VF to bottom of lens. Happy.

I use Scotch 3M Black Photo Masking Tape on all my CV viewfinders. I fold over a tiny strip, along an edge, to hanve something to grab onto, and for easy peeling off.

I LOST a 50mm CV finder awhile back so I now use a small dia. generic lens cap retainer cord with one end in a loop around the foot of all my finders and the other end secured to a split ring on the camera lug.

To change finders, I just remove and reinstall the loop around the foot of the finder. Simple and secure as h.......
