suggestions for wide angle (< 24mm) for landscapes? considering zm 18mm

Thanks

Thanks

This is great info.

Perhaps it explains all the used zeiss glass going for peanuts, and the rise of Leica pre-asph glass.

It's not a "Zeiss thing" but rather related to focal length - and the angle of the light rays from the rear element to the sensor. At extreme angles, the microlenses can't deal. The 4,5/21 ZM and CV 4/21 are two lenses that really don't work too well at all on the M9. Problem is, the rear element is VERY close to the sensor - making for extreme angles.

Funny, what makes RF wide angles so good over their SLR counterparts is exactly what's screwing them on the M9. 😉

There's only so much you can do with coding. From there, you'll need to use Cornerfix to process each shot. Which of course requires that you create calibration images. I just can't be bothered, honestly.

I love this lens. I've also tried the ZM 21/4.5 and CV 21/4. I kept only the ZM 18/4.

I recently bought a Zeiss 18mm f/4 Distagon and Zeiss 18mm VF. Have been shooting it with my M9 and am very pleased with the results. Virtually no color shifting and extremely minor fall off. It's a great lens. I coded it in the M9's menu as a Leica 16-18-21 WATE and selected 18mm. I also coded it manually with Tim Isaac's / Match Technical's Decoder 2.0 kit as a Leica 18mm f/3.8. Both settings work well, but the WATE at 18 mm appears to vignette a little less and produces slightly brighter images than the 18mm f/3.8 setting. I highly recommend the Zeiss 18mm f/4.0 Distagon.
