Suggestions on Adding Features to RFF?

Monday Gallery

Monday Gallery

The posting of favorite images for the week involves endless repetition where images are duplicated with each comment and it makes getting through the thread more difficult, especially on mobile devices.

A Monday Gallery where comments could be added and photos need not be repeated might help here.

Any other suggestions to limit reposting of images with the I-also-like subsequent posts would be appreciated.

Get rid of the intermediary step (it's called "more") when moving from page 1 to page 2.

This intermediate step only shows about 4 more posts on page 1.

If it would at all be possible to add pictures (or even just a single picture) to 'Want to Buy' or 'Want to Trade' advertisements, that would be great.

It would be really useful to show the stuff that's up for trade, or wanted.

Now there's nothing to show and that makes browsing less effective...

There's a 'Looking for...' field that cannot contain any data. In case of a trade it would be very nice to have a 'Looking for...' field that you can actually use, and a 'Have for trade...' field that can contain text and a single shot, perhaps? And show thumbnails in the listing?

possible, but not for a free price.
the paid ads should have more visibility.

would you be willing to pay $2 for the ad ?

An easier way to post feedback that is tied into the member... not the general thread. If the member's ad is gone its tough to leave feedback also the buyer should be able to get critiqued easily.

Also more space in the PM bucket as mentioned.

a good idea,
but the software makes it impractical to improve on what we already have.

Have it automatically take you to the first unread message in threads you've already read. Other forums I'm on do this and it's very useful.

I second the recommendation about how the first page and the second page listing of threads are virtually the same. Never understood this.

Also bigger page navigation buttons for iPad. I would image the maker of the bulletin board software most have some sort of update that includes different style sheets for mobile and tablet or a newer shell that uses responsive design principles. If not they certainly should. Since all the data is stored in a database, re-skinning it with tablet/mobile friendly style sheets should be fairly easy.

And agree with recommendation about not showing ads till paid for.

Eliminate needless censorship at rff. We are all grown ups. Some of the posts I have seen removed really did not need to be. It leaves a bad taste. I've been a mod on another board an know it's a tough call at times. Bad citizens expose themselves through poor manners. Deleting their posts only helps cover their bad behavior. Deleting posts that only offend others sensibilities is in itself uncalled for. Imo if it's not foul language, name calling, or behavior that calls for banishment... it should not be deleted.

Once in a while I think users have been dealt with a little too quickly, but really not much nor often. Personally, I think the Mods do a great job. I think the Mods are one of the reasons RFF is such a successful forum.

...

If not too difficult, I agree this is a useful feature. But I live without it since if it is a thread I am really interested in I likely have an idea where I left off reading.

Maybe give Sigma its own shortcut in the sidebar for advanced compacts?

I really can't think of much else ... this forum is very easy to use compared to others I have visited and the interface is near perfect IMO.

Someone suggested a little less enthusiasm regarding censorship of threads via post deletions. I sort of agree but would be reluctant to have to view anymore unpleasantness than I already do ... where do you draw the line?

The line is drawn by the moderators and I'm mostly ok with that. To increase transparency the moderators shouldn't only delete a thread completely without comment, but better leave an edited/inserted blocked one-post-thread with the reasoning of that decision. Over time this would help better know were the line is

What ideas do you have about adding new features to RFF ?

I'm wondering what features members would like to see to make RFF a better and more useful site.
I would like an option to select an alternative layout for the Buy/Sell forums. The current layout can be retained, but I find it unusably cluttered and lumpy in design. In a busy world, I just don't have time to visit. Please persuse the Buy/Sell forums at fredmiranda.com for ideas. This suggestion can be implemented by extracting the same data from the RFF database, and presenting it in concise form, one text line per seller posting. NO PICTURES!

P.S. I love RFF. 🙂
