Summar owners, if you haven't already retired, now's the chance!
If this auction was real, and I have no reason to suppose not, then that old, worn Summar sitting at the bottom of your bag has just become a whole lot more valuable.

Or am I completely out of touch?

Nice (clear) ones seemed to be going for $700 the last time I checked a couple of years ago, which is why I quit checking.

For trashed lens like in the OP link it is insane. But apparently it was enough of oddheads to buy lens with ruined optics.
Plenty of those lenses were sold recently under not for dummies with cash prices:

In the mid 1970s Summars were one of the lowest priced used Leitz lenses you could buy from mail order NYC photo stores that advertised their ware in the back pages of Popular and Modern Photography magazines .
The grungy Summars were about 18 USD and the better ones were around 27 USD, they were priced lower than even the LTM 50mm Elmars.

I feel better now that my pristine summar is actually worth something

The Summars with good unscratched and clear glass were not that common..even 40 years ago, I know they were known for soft optical glass but few owners seemed to have taken care of them from the 1930s onward... as the grungy ones were the norm...most people avoided them later on and that is why they sold for a pittance in the 1970s.

No connection to the seller - and my Summar is great, I don't need another one.
