There was a Summarit at the DFW show this weekend I wanted to buy but the seller wanted $1200 for it and would not come down to a reasonable price..

The only LTM Summarit that`s even remotely worth near that, is a "Taylor & Hobson" engraved - #492xxx *1939* serial numbered - 1949 issued Lens and they are only worth really $600/$700

$1,200 maybe it was gold plated? LOL!!! :D

Even a mint Xenon`s not worth $1,200, well maybe not on this side of the Atlantic ;)

He was high on everything he had.

He must have thought what he had was gold..

Wow. Everyone has beautiful shots with this lens.

I just passed up a very nice looking Summarit LTM for $225. Now I want it. Does that sound like a good price? I found no cleaning marks, and didn't see any haze, although I didn't do the flashlight test. Aperature and focus rings seemed OK. Barrel was very clean.

Should I jump on it?

Btw, LeicaTom-- next time you do a wedding shoot, can you get me an invitation? The weddings I get invited to don't look anything like yours.

Yeah $225 is CHEAP for a hazeless Summarit, I figure this was without caps, because the front cap alone is stupid money when sold seperately
(at least $50)

Normal prices for very clean LTM Summarit with BOTH caps are $375/$500 depending on condition, the "minter" the better

Heeheeheee! Yes, those "Bride" shoots are lot`s of fun, I`m shooting with that model again Tomorrow night here in Fla.

I think I`ll be doing a Xenon Vs. Summarit shoot very soon!

Its photos certainly have their own "look". I have it in thread mount which I use with an M adapter on my M cameras. I like it for some applications but am contemplating selling it (with my M3) due to lack of use, and as I am using digital much more and am thinking of upgrading to a near new nikon d200 while they are cheap having just been superceded. I regret doing this as the Sumamrit is a simply stunning piece of equipment, made like a piece of jewellery and in near mint condition - I just love its build quality! But I dont want to invest ever increasing amounts in cameras so its fitting to sell some gear that I am using less.

Summarit 50 f1.5 & Photos

Well, I've been looking but can't find all that much about this lens. Can some fine folks please post some examples of this lens (wide open, stopped down, whatever) please!

Put in a few good or bad words about this lens perhaps?

I really want a 'special' lens that has it's own look, as it were. I don't care that much for sharpness with this lens, I got a Hexar AF for that.

Here I have one shot of this lens in wide open. This lens is not sharp in wide open, but it has dreamy character similar to summilux early generation which I like it alot (not all photographs have to be sharp). I like this lens and now the price is pretty affordable. My summarit is M mount and the aperture has clicks (I read that some people don't have clicks on aperture control).

Etc..

I purchased an M version of this lens and found that white objects (using color film) would flare the prints. I have not used it since but maybe B&W film would be different??? Anyway I preferred other lenses that I have better because of that.

on M5, wide open

on M5, wide open

Both taken wide open, at 1/15 (if I remeber well), some postprocessing in LR3 (exposure, blacks). This lens has some cleaning marks on the front element. Sold it, but I might buy a better example.

They need to be clean internally and use a shade.

Then they will be somewhat soft and a little low in contrast wide open. I like the pics from mine.

Hans
Your first pic is really sweet! Cute GF also. The pic shows why to have this lens. Nice Leica glow but with better DOF than a noct. The Summarit with it's low contrast really does very nicely holding highlights. A more modern sharper lens would blow details that the summarit keeps even if a bit soft.

Yepp yepp, I like this lens. The one I am eyeing seems to be very nice and clean except for one or two grains of dust inside but that's ok. Yes I do need to get a proper lens shade, softness is fine but flare and ghosting? No! And yes I will be using this solely for B&W (tri-x, rollei retro)

In fact I might get a lens shade (IF I can find one in Sweden) and tape around the front to make the opening even smaller for maximum flare prevention!

Thanks a bunch everyone, keep posting though!

I need to dig out my Summarit to use it with the EP-2. Then I will post here some images.

I always use a shade, and I had the Summarit cleaned internally. No matter what you do, the lens remains with the characters of a Summarit.
