fwiw, for portability and handling, and since i would like to have a good 28, i'd consider swapping my 75 cron for a 75 summarit + 28 elmarit (give or take), sure. mostly because i admit the finer distinctions escape me, and the better the handling the more i use a lens anyway. the 35 and 75 would make a fine but pricey everyday "pocket" kit, no?

A further thought on this, after discussing it with my wife Frances Schultz:

Does anyone say, "I want a 75mm lens. Should I buy a Summilux, Summicron or Summarit?"

I think not. Rather, they say, "I like the 75mm focal length. Which one will do what I want, and what can I afford?"

So in many ways, the three are not even competitors.

Thanks again for the response. All my lenses are better than I need. The comparison is a matter of curiosity as it is well beyond my means to compare the 75s myself.

Dear Mike,

Your analysis is exact, and I fully understand your logic -- but then, my dream kit is 35/1.4 pre-aspheric (tiny), 75/2 Summilux (stunning) and 2xMP (I have to make do with MP + M4-P).

As you say, it's all about USING the kit, not angels you'll never see (because of camera shake at long exposures) on pinheads you can't afford.
