(I could have put this under either Leica M or LTM. But my Summarit fits my M models, so here goes.) Ready?

OK. Everyone knows the Summarit 50/1.5 has an E41 filter thread, right? Right. So I'm browsing the auction site, and I find this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230267367263&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013

Since this auction won't be up forever, I had better describe it. The seller has an orange filter, boxed. It is cleary marked: Leitz; 43mm; for Summarit 50/1.5.

How can this be? It ought to be a 41mm, but it's in a Leitz box, marked for the Summarit, 43mm, plain as day. I emailed the seller, who is a camera dealer. He wrote back that he had noticed this, & thought it was strange; but doesn't know the answer.

He also has a yellow filter, also advertised for the Summarit, and that one is a 42mm according to the text. Now, they can't both fit the same lens, so. . .

Any ideas?

I believe the previous poster is right. 43mm refers to the slip on type filter. The screw type is referred to as a 41mm. I guess they use the outside diameter by convention and of course the outside diameter of the slip filter is larger than that of the screw in filter. I have 41mm screw filters for my Summarit but have certainly seen the other type although I do not own any.

I can confirm that 41mm is the correct screw in size for Summarit, it is the same as 65mm Elmar and not a lot else.

Logic would dictate that 43mm would be pretty damn close to push on size. But beware that some Summarits have a bayonet type arrangement, I think.
