Wow...anybody have a better source for a hood to fit the Summarit 50mm 1.5? Kevin's Cameras has a couple or three in the $250-300 range!

Or, should I just not bother with a hood?😕
 
i have the same lens, and think that you'll certainly need a hood to reduce haze, flaring etc.

at the cameraquest.com site just now, found the following:

a) Hood 50/1.5 Summarit Vented Hood, E++ black crinkle paint $150

b) (this is the hood and cap i bought)

NEW CameraQuest Lens Metal Screw in Hoods: $30 each, push-on Voigtlander Metal Cap for most 39mm and larger hoods $20​
41mm Screw in metal Hood, black or chrome, fits among others Leica 50/1.5 Summarit, 35/1.4 Summilux non Aspheric, 60/3.5 Visoflex Elmar, optional push on Voigtlander cap

Paying more than $75 for any hood is KRAZY........I bought mine here off that guy who had the 57' MP for $65

Save your money Dave and wait till you find a "user" grade XOONS, these prices of over $75 are unrealistic, it`s NOT a rare hood, matter of fact they made quite a few and the markets always nearly full, because they never sell them at the price they are asking.....

Canon 50mm f/1.2 hoods go for $ 150+ if you can find one, and a new hood for a Rollei Wide is $ 300 (ask me how I know that one!). Don't even want to talk about what hoods for the Canon 50/.95 go for.

As far as the XOONS hood, Kevin Li has one for $ 230.00, LeicaShop has one for EU 150, KOH's Camera has a mint one with box for $ 190.00, so.....
 
Wow to think that at couple of years ago I turned one down for $120 Australian as I thought it crazy expensive. Who's crazy now? I did end up finding a very nicely designed and built Walz one for about $5 though. (A contemporary of the Summarit in age but similar in design to the more recent Summicron hood with a vents around the outside rim.)

I totally forgot the WALZ hood from Japan!
(oh thanks Pete I just read your post above 🙂 dammm $5 woopie!!! that was a find, I paid at least $45 for mine about a year ago!)

It`s lighter, vented and I use it full time on my Xenon 😀

Just look hard on ebay for this one, should`nt cost more than $50, also with the XOONS, I`d be patient, they come around under $75, it`s for me all about using original gear, which I do, but I NEVER pay collector prices, everything in my camera list here was bought *under* collectors price, (including my 43' IIIC K - and my M6 was traded for) and I found everything in under 11 months time (not rushing), I find that hoods can be really expensive, but if you wait and shop around you can always find deals (I turned down a $75 Canon f1.2 hood because I didn`t need it I don`t have the lens at the present time and I still debate if I really need the extra speed with all the other fast lenses I have)

I`d say wait for a "user" XOONS or look for a WALZ one, I`ll post some photos of mine here shortly.......

PS: Ohh I agree with Vince 100% the prices of the Canon and rare stuff like the Rolleiwide and even the pre 1949 Xenon hood are KRAZY (over $300+ on some accounts) but, I guess we each have our own lines we draw, I`d rather save the money for a rare lens, or another body etc.

The original hood for rollei are all expensive, especially the bayIII and bay IV...I agree with LeicaTom that I would never buy a hood for more than 50$...
 
Geez, gimme the name of the guy with the $ 75.00 Canon 1.2 lens hood....

And hey, I have a Xenon hood too...forgot about that one! And let's not forget the 105 f/6.3 Mountain Elmar hood....

Of course, I've made compromises too -- I was looking at a $ 400 hood for my Contaflex TLR (the hood is so good you can't adjust the aperture once you've mounted it), but found that a 40.5mm Contax lens hood fits all the 50/2 Sonnars, and the 135/4 Sonnars, and you can get Zeiss ones for $ 30. Or, I could use a $ 2.00 40.5mm - 49mm step up ring and away we go!

I have the lens hood for the Canon 50/1.2 and for the Summarit, plus several lens hoods for BIII Rolleiflex. It seems that in the past, these lens hoods were not very costly.
 
Walz, not Waltz. Although, search for both spellings on eBay!

As for XOONS, this is an example of an item that dealers controlled the price of for a long time, and kept it very high. eBay is revealing that it's far too common to sustain that price, and the dealers are sticking their heads in the sand. eBay reveals the reality of supply and demand, the days when dealers controlled the primary market for used equipment are long gone.

On the other hand, the SOOHN hood for the Hektor 28/6.3 really is as rare as dealer prices would suggest, and no reserve auctions fetch a price reasonably close to the dealer prices.

Those images are sweeeet! Looks almost like you used the Summarit to get those...if not, what camera/lens did you use?

BTW, that case looks to be in the same condition as mine for the M3. Not sure about my straps, though. I would like to replace with something a bit more substantial. Any ideas?😕

This really was a TEST I did to see if I could get a "forced" flare, during a PinUp shoot mid last year, my 56' Summarit on my M6 😀

Well, it`s a trade secret with my work.....and some digital tricks, but I`ll let you know it is a Zeiss Sonnar lens 🙂 of recent manufacture 😉 (and it is digital)

Hmmm original Leica M3 straps, I think I just saw some on Evilbay last night? Hmmmm I do have OPTECH straps on my 1 TON HEAVY Canon F-1 Mech, they have never failed!

Yes, hahahahahah and then add that it also has like maybe 20% haze in it as well, so that also adds to the special effects, and I have at least 15% haze in my Xenon (which will remain untouched) but the Summarit is going out for a CLA sometime soon.....
(I think I`m going to use Essex to clean that lens up?)

If this what we are worrying about then I'll add that it's got a home made fixing screw to it and I'm not into silly prices, yet.
