Summarit with haze. Part 1.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a 1957 Summarit 50mm 1.5 lens with a bit of haze visible with a flashlight. I was anxious about the results, but didn't need to be.

Life and work got between me and the scanner (need more hours in the day). Just now I've noticed this one is not focused well - D'oh.

Tell me about it!

For the last few days, I've been spending hours to clone dusts out of my scans. It takes me an average of 1 hour to remove dusts out of a single scan! So far I've scanned 8 photos, 1-2 scans per day. About 100 more of 'must be preserved' and around 400 of 'may worth keeping them' to go. Not much life for me for the next 2 years??? *sigh*

I noticed the same problem, but not quite as bad as yours. Makes you wonder about the air we breathe. I now vacuum the room, the desk, and keyboard once a week and wipe clean the desk before each scanning session. Also clean the scanner glass often, as well as the film holders. I store the film holders in plastic bags, and put a cotton cover over the scanner when not in use.

Once the film strip is mounted I clean it with the lens blower holding it at an angle in the desk lamp light so that dust (and cat hair) is visible. Having a curious, playful kitten is not good. He makes a hell of a noise if he's shut out of the room, and likes to be in the centre of the action.

You have to do something about those 'roos kicking up all that dust.
