OK, Ive always believed that the Summaron 2.8 came in three variations. The M3 version with the goggles, which focuses to .65m, the M2 version, without goggles which focuses to .7m, and the true threadmount version that focuse to 1m. The threadmount, I believe, has no grub screw hole. The M3 and the M2 version have removable "M" adapters, but can be identified by their minimum focusing distance and the grub screw.
Studying the "rare threadmount versions" sold on ebay, most have focusing distances of .65 or .7 with grub screw holes. Are so many of these lenses really being misrepresented as threadmounts or am I just misinformed? Stu

My LTM Summaron 35/2.8 is the real deal: minimum focus of 1m, no hole for a grub screw. I would be perfectly happy with an M version, but this one was listed on eBay while I was scanning.

Not bogus. I have read that early Summaron 35/2.8 lenses for M mount were factory conversions from LTM. The focussing helical supports 0.7m, obviously, so the barrel engravings are different. Leitz (and Leica AG) are known to mix-and-match the parts bin during product transitions (brass vs zinc top deck, M6TTL rear door vs M7, M7 vs MP non-flaring VF, etc).
