Hello all.
I have got my Summaron 3.5/35 and a FOOKH.
But, the FOOKH does not fit the lens.
Any idea why?
Were the lenses made in a smaller size too, older type maybe?
Thanks for looking.

I did not know of a 50mm Summaron till your post. The FISON fits the 50 Elmar and the 35 f3.5 Summaron. Maybe the FOOKH is not the right hood?

Hi,
The Summaron is 35mm, imo, and there's a f/3.5 version and a bigger f/2.8 one; perhaps that's the answer...
Regards, David
PS And before it's pointed out there's also a fixed focus version for meter photography.

Only thing that is different on my lens is the added GmbH. Nr. 1596523, maybe some models were made a bit larger....
On the FOOKH it says, Summaron, Elmar 3.5 cm, but the one I got is about 1mm shy of fitting.
Thanks for helping.

Have you tried unscrewing the little knob? When its tightened all the way, it likely would not slide onto the lens at all.
Otherwise without a photo of your lens, I can assume either the FOOKH or the Front face of your Summaron may be tweaked!
I had an Elmar 3.5cm with a badly damaged front face that would not take filters due to being so askew, a couple of minutes with some oak and pliers fixed that.

With the screw undone, does the end of the internal spring sit out flush with the other end of the spring? Is there damage to the knurling of the front rim of the Summaron? Mating of the two cylinders may be held up by problems with one or the other or both.

Hi,
The f/2.8 takes the A42 and the f/3.5 the A36 slip-ons, meaning 42mm and 36mm so I hope the difference is obvious. The letter 'A' means 'slip-on' and 'E' means 'screw in' for Leit and Leica filters, etc.
FWIW, the lens cap of the f/2.8 lens fits nicely on the end of the f/3.5's lens hood.
A ruler should sort things out...

Looking at the pics there is an extra ring (probably an adaptor of some sort) on the OP's lens which needs to come off first.

The hood you have is for the early LTM version of this lens which has a 36mm diameter and takes clamp fit filters not screw in ones. Looks like you have the later 39mm version lens which takes standard 39mm screw fit filters and 42mm clamp on hoods.
You could try this hood which I use for most of my Leica glass as I like its look and it performs well being quite deep. You will need a 39mm to 43mm adapter as well but both are cheap - all up cost maybe $8.
Mind you, I must confess I believe I have not tried this on a 35mm Leica lens. But I know that I have tried it on a Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 at full aperture and know it does not vignette on this so believe a slower 35mm will be finetoo

Thanks all.
I will take a look at the ring, extra, that needs to come off.
I am away now for some days, but will report how it goes when I return home.
As peterm1 says, my lense takes the e39 filters.
Thanks all.

Peterm1, you are right.
My lens measures close to 42mm, it takes the E39 filters.
Regarding the ring, well, I am not able to see if there is one, nothing loose and nothing looks to be put on, like an adapter.
So, I need a clamp-on 42 hood.
Wondering if I can use the ITOOY?

Think the proper hood is the IROOA
The ITOOY is very deep and for the 5cm Elmar M mount

Did learn something new today also.

I have a 35/2.8 Summaron, and I used the correct IROOA hood for some time. I always found the moderate viewfinder blockage a little distracting. I then tried a vented 12585H hood designed for the 35/2.8 and others. It is far superior with better shading and a barely noticeable outline of the hood, having a vented construction.
Unless you are using it for nostalgic correctness, I would avoid the more expensive IROOA, and try to source a 12585 (H or not makes no difference to the Summaron).
Enjoy your Summaron!
Cheers

Mute-on,
Thank you. I did save some $ there, the 12585 is good for me. I am not trying to do everything 100% correct.
