Summer in the City (w/nw)

In Japan, summer means festivals. Here's a few from the bon odori dancing festival held at Kawasaki Daishi last Sunday. The event didn't go quite according to plan, but was fun nonetheless.

The dancing begins.

The dancing is proceeding on schedule but the clouds are starting to look rather ominous.

Rain! Run for cover.

Then it poured down with rain for a solid hour, and everyone was stuck where they took shelter.

Kids playing with a "Cuban balloon" on the Prado in downtown Havana. Balloons as we think of them are not available in Cuba. These "Cuban balloons" are made of latex, have a nipple end, come per-lubricated in individual packages and are essentially free. Cuba is very progressive in sexual education and attitudes. These kids know what they are playing with as well as how and why it is used.
